Heartwarming

Last fall I posted "Heartbroken", about my mom's heart attack. We have come full circle from that. Mom officially became a Montana resident on April 28th!  Karl flew to Las Vegas on the prior Thursday, my sister flew from Texas the same day.  On Friday they packed up Mom's moving van and Karl headed for Montana, driving the van and riding with Mom's dog, Lady.  Lisa and Mom headed for Montana on Saturday and arrived in time for dinner on Sunday.

Karl, not being a huge fan of pets in the first place, deserves a medal for not only moving his mother-in-law into his house but also hauling her obese pit bull/boxer mix all that way.  She is a sweetheart, but not so mobile in her current state of weight.  Karl had to lift her into and out of the truck at every pee stop. And she creeped him out with her under-bite.He says she is a cross between a pit bull, boxer and a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig.

Chad was ready to have a new friend.  He is at a stage where if the other dog wants to play, he's all play.  But if the other dog wants a fight he's all fight.  The first night was a cold introduction.  Chad tried to play and Lady ignored him.  Truce.  Sunday was more of the same.  Then Grandma arrived with Lisa.

Peace reigned until Monday morning.  Lady was sitting next to Mom's chair and Chad came over for a lovin'.  Lady leaped into battle and Mom, unfortunately, grabbed Lady's collar.  Lady responded by turning around and sinking her teeth into Mom's forearm.  Yikes.

I awoke to snarling dogs and Lisa screaming at them.  I ran downstairs and by that time the fight was over.  For the dogs it was a draw, but Mom was left bloody.  Off we went to urgent care.  After an irrigation of multiple bite wounds, two of which were quite deep, a tetanus shot and a prescription for antibiotics we left for home.

It had been raining when we left the house.  By this time it was snowing and blowing nearly horizontally.  Which reminded me of the meme I printed and sent to Las Vegas with Karl:

It was an exciting start to a new life.  Happy to report that the dogs have come to a truce and even kinda play in the evenings.  Mom is settling in, staying with us for now.  She is first on the waiting list for her apartment in Whitefish.  The kids are having a blast with Grandma.  Even though she is limited by back pain, she still entertains them and they her. And Chad claims ownership of Grandma when Lady isn't looking.

Now, if I could just get Lisa and John up here.....
