The robins and other migratory birds are returning, so regardless of the temperature and the amount of snow on the lawn, I consider that spring has arrived. I watched robins pulling worms out of the patches of bare lawn yesterday. Sadly it also means that our killer front window has taken its toll already. At least two injuries and one death from birds flying into it. Bummer.
Some confusion exists about spring because we are now raking the fall leaves. The hard freeze we had in early October froze the leaves onto the trees and they never fell in the fall. They have fallen over the winter but still, the maples have about half the leaves on them. So now that the snow is receding and we have had some dry weather we have raked piles of leaves. It's not as much fun for the kids to jump into piles of damp moldy leaves as it is when the leaves are dry and clean in the fall, but they do it anyway.
