Camping at Fish Creek

We spent the weekend camping at Fish Creek in Glacier. We went with our friends the Donahues and had a blast. Brendan's buddy, Reece, spent one of the nights in the trailer with us. We awoke to the sound of 7 year old giggles and whispers and other noises. I had to laugh out loud they were so cute.

The twins didn't sleep so well on Friday night. No cribs, no familiar place, no noise maker = no sleep. I think they finally gave up around 11:00.

We spent Saturday letting the older kids "wade" in the freezing water of Lake McDonald, which they seem immune to. Then after lunch Katie, Erin, baby Reghan and Rita and Anthony walked our legs off. First on the Lake McDonald trail with the rest of the gang, then from Fishcreek to Apgar for Mass. It was a beautiful Mass with the lake and mountains in the background. Exhaustion on the part of the twins led to stellar behavior at Mass, so my new philosophy is shorter naps and run them hard. So far it is working well.

Saturday night was more campfire fun and, thankfully, a better night sleep for the twins.

The Donahues had to pack up Sunday morning to retrieve one of their brood (17 year old Seth) from one camp and send 11 year old Connor to another camp. Brendan was sad to see his "other brother from another mother", Reece leave. We tried to compensate for no Reece, but sadly, at his age, friends rule. Luckily for us Brendan is blessed with great kids to be friends with!

The Donahues came to visit our trailer before heading out. I was making pancakes and every time I got one done there was another child with their hands out! The Donahues have six beautiful kids and four of them were in line for pancakes, plus Brendan. It made me laugh and remember another time with pancake making and many hands reaching for them. FYI Teresa and Niall, this time I was laughing!

The Henshaws drove to Apgar for a picnic lunch and to throw stones in the lake. It was an adventure trying to keep toddlers dry! Then we drove up the Going to the Sun Road to Logan Pass to see the snow at the top of Glacier's peaks. Sadly, the camera battery died so I wasn't able to get pictures of the major avalanche that had occurred over the winter, the snow (still many feet deep in places) and the newly born mountain goat kid. You'll have to take my word for it!

We headed home tired, dirty and happy and ready to do it all over again!

Brendan in the lake. I think he is part seal since the cold water doesn't seem to bother him.

Playing "Pooh Sticks" at Fish Creek. Brendan didn't want to at first because it's a "baby game", but they all got into it! Sticks and water, no one can resist.
