Keen regularly published papers on fish culture, gaining international
notoriety among fish culturists. He was also instrumental in developing
the hybrid palomino trout. After retiring from the Pennsylvania Fish
Commission he was employed as Vice President for Marine Protein, a
Madison Avenue Corporation dedicated to commercially rearing fish
in silos for the purpose of feeding the protein-hungry countries around
the world. While employed by Marine Protein, many of his ideas were
patented - silos to raise a bountiful supply of fish to help feed the world.
He also worked as a Fish Culture Consultant in the U.S. and abroad.
He completed his business-related work at Mansfield State University
where he was recruited to develop and teach the Fish Culture Degree
Program. In 1990 he was inducted into the American Fisheries Society
Fish Culture Hall of Fame. Keen's favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing,
backpacking, collecting fishing tackle, photography and travel. He hunted
and fished the West for over 35 years and also presented slide shows of
these trips to many local clubs. He was a member of the State College
Slide Club and was also recognized for his meritorious support to the
Lions Club of Pennsylvania. At age 80 he qualified as a member of the
"Over the Hill Gang" who met annually to ski in Vail, Colorado. A special
