Karl went to a Scout camp meeting in the afternoon. I took the kids swimming at the summit. Someone check my sanity. Brendan, bless his heart, was trying to show me how much better he can swim now. I had a steel grip on Rita and Anthony who kept struggling against the physics of their life jackets and tried to drown themselves anyway. They were having a great time in the "wa wa". I enjoyed it as well, right up to the time I noticed the floating particulates in my area, if you get my drift. Yes, Rita muddied the water and the pool was evacuated. Thankfully it was the small pool used by mostly toddlers and older folks, the main pool remained open as our next target. I dragged them to the locker room, crying because they wanted more "wa wa". We showered, put on a new swim diaper and got right back on the horse. The big pool was colder, but they didn't care. They were still determined to drown with smiles on their faces. Brendan was able to get a couple of tricks in that I could watch and he really is swimming much better. To his chagrin he will still have to take swim lessons this summer.
Trying to get the twins showered and dressed in a locker room not really designed for twins (what were they thinking, where are the leashes and straps to tie them to the floor?) was an adventure. They were mad because I wouldn't let them walk around because they kept slipping and falling, which also made them cry. I finally got Anthony showered and sat down on the floor and was working on getting Rita dressed when I looked over and saw Anthony playing with the toilet and licking the floor drain. Brendan meanwhile was trying to locate the stroller for me and panicking because they kept announcing that they were going to lock the doors in five minutes so he thought we would have to spend the night there with only a cup full of Cheerios and two sippie cups of water. Finally got Rita done and strapped into the stroller and re-showered the drain licker. Then they announced that the doors were locked and Brendan went into full panic mode. Calmed Brendan down, got Anthony done and then managed to get myself dressed. We were able to break out of the gym and made it safely home. Long story short, remind me to take Tylenol before I do that again.
We ended the day with a rousing game of Extreme Twister. It used to be just Twister before Rita and Anthony, but it really adds a new dimension to the game when a toddler is trying to tackle you while you are already off balance.
Thank you God for a perfect weekend.
